Kevin Gant
School Development Coach
kgant@newtechfoundation.org

Kevin Gant started teaching as a Teach For America corps member in New Orleans, LA, then moved on to teach at his high school alma mater, Del Norte, in Albuquerque, NM. For six years, Kevin taught primarily Physics, though he also taught Chemistry, Geology, and Astronomy at Del Norte.

Looking for a new challenge in 2001, Kevin accepted a job to collaboratively create and teach an integrated, project-based Physics and Algebra II course (“Scientific Studies”) for New Technology High School in Napa. His two-year tenure at Napa changed him as a teacher, and underlined for him the efficacy and importance of small schools, collaborative teaching and learning, and Project Based-Learning. However, being away from New Mexico was too much for his family to bear, and he moved back to his hometown in 2003.

He returned to Del Norte to teach Physics and AP Physics, while serving as Science Department Chair. Kevin has also worked for the University of New Mexico as a clinical supervisor of intern teachers, and he frequently served as a mentor teacher at his own school, advocating the use of PBL, inquiry learning, and constructivism in general.

Dually certified by his state in both math and science, Kevin also became National Board Certified in Adolescent/Young Adult Science, specializing in Physics in 2006. He holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of New Mexico.

Deeply committed to engaging, meaningful learning for all students, Kevin is delighted to join the New Technology Foundation as a School Development Coach.
