Tim began teaching in the Bellflower Unified School District, in southern California, after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000. Working in a variety of positions throughout the district, he taught social studies at both the junior high and high school level. It was in this urban setting where he found his passion for developing curriculum to meet the needs of the diverse group of learners.
In 2001, he began teaching 8th Grade U.S. History at Santa Barbara Junior High in Santa Barbara, California. Over the course of that year, he also earned his Masters of Education, specializing in the use of primary sources in the social sciences. In 2003, he heard about a new school that was starting in Sacramento centered around Project Based Learning and based on the New TechT model in Napa. He believed so strongly in the mission of the school and unique curriculum design that he decided to move to Sacramento to join the staff of New Technology High SchoolT .
For the next two school years, Tim taught 9th grade Geographic Literacy and Writing, team teaching alongside an English Teacher. He also served as Social Studies Department Co-Chair, Head Teacher, and New Technology FoundationT Site Mentor.
In 2005, Tim had to leave the school so that his wife, who is a college professor, could accept a position in Wisconsin. It was at that time that he started working with the Foundation to support the teachers and schools throughout the network. Tim's primary duties include curriculum development and teacher support and training.
