Algiers Technology Academy (ATA) opened its doors for the first time in the fall of 2007. It is a unique small technology-based school modeled after the successful New Technology High School based in Napa Valley, California. Student enrollment will not exceed 400 for grades 9-12 with computer to student ratio of 1:1 and student to teacher ratio of 25:1. ATA uses unique techniques, systems, materials, and training aids in line with the state curriculum and National Education Technology Standards to ensure student eligibility for TOPS upon graduation.

ATA is located in Algiers , just 10 minutes from the Central Business District of New Orleans. Students from all over the devastated metro areas travel across the Crescent City Connection to the welcoming atmosphere where the faculty and staff expect high academic standards. ATA is a passport for higher education, high standards, and hope for the public education in the City of New Orleans.

At Algiers Technology Academy , the growth of the whole student is the highest priority. Students will respect themselves and others, be kind, and do their very best work.

All seniors at ATA will have an internship with local business to complete their studies. The internship is designed to provide students with real world experience in their particular area of concentration and to provide additional preparation for certification.

The diverse faculty comes from different parts of the country as well as diverse backgrounds holding Bachelor's and Master's degrees. The faculty consists of experienced and new teachers-all participating in continuing education and professional development.

Algiers Technology Academy has enhanced the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum that includes English, math, social studies, science, physical education as well as honor and AP classes with the integration of technology. ATA offers three distinct paths for student concentration and certification: Business Systems (MOUS certification), Graphic Design (CIW certification), and Computer Science (A+, Network+, or CCNA certification). Upon graduation, students will be able to continue their studies in a college environment or enter the workforce with job-ready skills based on the knowledge acquired through ATA coursework.

Project-Based Learning has been implemented as the primary instructional methodology in the classroom. PBL is an approach for classroom activities that emphasize learning through long-term interdisciplinary and student-centered methods which gives the student a deeper understanding of the concept being taught.

The Digital Arts Alliance High School Residency by Pearson Digital Alliance delivers project-based digital portfolio programs, in-class computer technology, and a team of specially trained program staff assist high school teachers and students. During the course of what typically is a fifteen hour residency, high school students create a film that, in their own words, frames their academic and personal achievements in the context of their future academic and career goals.
