The Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy, in partnership with the business community and local universities, is devoted to providing a challenging, rigorous learning environment in which academically capable students will pursue advanced studies in science, mathematics, and technology.
The precursor for the New Technology High School in Jefferson Parish is the Jefferson Parish School for Science and Technology that opened in August of 2004. In April of 2005, the school was renamed in honor of Patrick F. Taylor. As a New Technology High School next year, PTSTA will expand enrollment to ninth grade to serve approximately 90 students. Over the next three years the NTHS will remain a small school by limiting enrollment to 100 students per grade. The curriculum at the NTHS will meet and/or exceed the minimum state requirements for college readiness.
The primary instructional methodology at PTSTA is project-based learning. Team teaching, cross curricular activities, and authentic assessment are vital to the success of the current program at PTSTA and will be expanded as the school adopts the NTHS learning system.
PTSTA has broad support throughout the business community. Their main partner is DynMcDermott Petroleum Operations Company.
