Discovery Project Earth--Discovery Channel (9:00 pm)
Raining Forests
Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy's (Jefferson, Louisiana) efforts in rebuilding the wetlands will be aired on the Discovery Channel. Taylor students, parents, teachers, and other community volunteers built 20,000 seed pods to be dropped from the air to re-seed the coastal barrier islands destroyed by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Coastal and environmental responsibility is an important area of study at Taylor since it affects our daily lives. This real-world scientific experiment was a perfect fit to our PBL environment and social responsibility focus.

Teachers and students from the Los Angeles School of Global Studies (LASGS) will be featured in an episode of TLC's Little People Big World. The episode will air on April 21st at 8pm.
LASGS teachers, Kim Dawson, Nate Liu, and Alex Guevara, recently created a PBL unit as part of an interdisciplinary Algebra 1 and 9th grade science course. The unit culminated with the first annual Little Person Advocacy Event. For this project each student designed a piece of furniture (using Google Sketchup) that would meet the specific body measurements of a little person. They also designed a piece of furniture that would make an average height person feel like a little person when using it. Throughout the project they were able to interview little people about dwarfism and get their feedback on their designs. Each team of students built a cardboard replica of one of their designs to present at the LP Advocacy Event. The students were evaluated by fellow students, teachers, staff and by little people Connie, Jody and Carlton. They were also evaluated and supported by Matt Roloff of the television show Little People Big World.
So, tune in on Monday night, April 21, 2008 to see the results of their efforts!
