Ninth Grade Recruitment Is Overwhelming Success
Napa, CA New Technology High School’s Freshman Connect Days proved to be a success with a total of 175 applications from eighth grade boys and girls wishing to attend as freshman in the 2004-05 school year.
NTHS launched their freshman recruitment program in December after the November 2003 approval by the Napa Valley Unified School District Board to expand its nationally acclaimed New Technology High School from an upper division program for eleventh and twelfth grade students to a full ninth twelfth grade small high school. The program allowed interested eighth grade students to attend a morning at NTHS where they experienced first-hand the unique and exciting learning environment NTHS offers.
The expansion allowed for 90 ninth grade students to join NTHS in the fall of 2004 however a total of 175 applications were submitted. After the application deadline, each applicant was assigned a number to be entered into a lottery which was held publicly in the NTHS presentation room on February 2nd at 3:30 p.m. Eighth grade student’s whose names weren’t called were placed on a waiting list. The list totals 60 at this time. NTHS Principal Mark Morrison regrets the number of students who had to be placed on the waiting list yet remains delighted by incoming freshman. “The students and their families are so excited to be here, they bring great energy.”
Junior Connect Days to fill the 100 places available for the 2004-05 school year are scheduled for February 6th, 10th, 18th, 23rd, and March 2nd. Students who wish to experience a small school environment focused on exploring and developing their own potential, in a unique and award winning environment are asked to contact the school at 707-259-8557. The school is located at 920 Yount Street in Napa.
