China’s National Center for Educational Technology Will Visit New Technology High School in Napa
Napa, CA New Technology High School continues to attract international attention in the field of technology-infused education. Less than a year ago, educators from the Ninestils School, A technology college located in Birmingham, United Kingdom, visited the high school to learn about project-based learning methodology. On Wednesday, February 2, 2005, New Technology High School will receive visitors from China’s National Center for Educational Technology (NCET).
The National Center for Educational Technology, funded by the Ministry of Education for China; has been charged with the mission of jumpstarting all education programs throughout China. The group is currently developing a three to five year plan for both the east and rural western regions of the country. Over the past two years, NCET has worked with Oracle’s Think.com group on a pilot program involving more than 10,000 children and is presently in discussion on the subjects of student-centered work, building collaboration skills and the use of educational technology.
Think.com, run by former head of WestEd labs; Bernie Trilling, provides web-based collaborative tools for more than 4,000 schools and teachers around the world; focusing mainly at the K-8 level. As work continues on the NCET pilot, Mr. Trilling is incorporating classroom visits where the group can experience this type of learning in its environment.
Award winning New Technology High School showcases project-based, student-centered and technology-infused learning environments as well as 21st century skills. This learning environment shares the same educational philosophy as Think.com and provides an excellent opportunity to experience a classroom in action. The visit will start at New Technology Foundation with breakfast and an introduction to the NTHS model before heading across the street to the high school. The guests will then participate in a student-led tour of the school, followed by lunch attended by NVUSD Superintendent of Schools, John Glaser. Lunch will be followed by a question and answer session with NTHS students. After a short debriefing, the guests will enjoy a wine tasting trip throughout the Napa Valley.
